I love New Year's Eve! Specifically, I love the the energy that comes with "thin" nature of the day/evening. There is something that is quite wonderful about the millions of people gathering together around the world simply to be together remember, and look to the year to come with hope and expectancy. Hmmm, sounds a bit like what we do in worship: fellowship and community, anamesis, and rejoicing, imagining and celebrating with hope good eschatology!

Of course, ritual is essential to both New Year's Eve/New Year's Day celebrations and worship events. Part of our New Year's Eve ritual involves dinner with the same set of friends we've celebrated the New Year with for years and the shape of the evening is nearly always the same, year-in and year-out.

What are a few of the New Year's Eve/New Year's Day rituals that you celebrate?
