Leading Worship at the 2011 Perkins School of Youth Ministry

Joe Stobaugh is currently serving as the Senior Pastor of University Park United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas.

Joe began his tenure at UPUMC on July 1, 2020.

Prior to his appointment at UPUMC, Joe served as the Pastor of Modern Worship and as the Executive Minister of Worship and Arts at Grace Avenue United Methodist Church in Frisco, TX. Rev. Stobaugh facilitated the creation of the six weekend worship events at Grace Avenue (whose styles range from ‘traditional’, to Taizé, to ‘contemporary’ and ‘emergent’) and serves as one of the preachers in the preaching team at GAUMC.

Previous appointments include Associate Pastor and Cantor and Curator of Worship at Argyle UMC; Associate Pastor and Minister of Worship at historic Travis Park UMC, and Associate Pastor and Minister of Worship at First United Methodist Church of Longview, Texas.

Rev. Stobaugh is an ordained deacon in the North Texas Conference of The United Methodist Church. Joe holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Texas (where he studied music education and saxophone) and a Master of Sacred Music degree (Magna cum Laude) from the Perkins School of Theology and the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University (with a concentration in choral conducting). Rev. Stobaugh is a Brother in The Order of Saint Luke and a doctoral candidate in leadership and spirituality at The General Theological Seminary in New York City.

Joe was the youngest National President of The Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts: an organization that serves musicians and worship artists across the United States. 

He released his first full length album, Pilgrimage in September of 2013. In 2015 he released Music for Winter and has released singles in 2016, 2017, and 2018, all of which are available on many streaming platforms. 

He has been a featured clinician in the areas of worship and sacred music at numerous national conventions and has served as worship designer and consultant in many contexts. He has also served as the preacher at several events winthin the connection.

Joe's ministry related passions include preaching, leadership, growth in connection to God through spiritual disciplines, empowering congregational participation in worship, social justice and peace ministries, bridging the world and the church, the intersection of culture and worship, and the use of new music and art forms for worship. 

Joe loves spending time with his wife Sarah, their children Ellie and Sam, and of course their Labradane Buddy! His passions include making music, traveing, playing golf, and obsessing over Dallas Stars Hockey.
